Moosehead lays off 27 - sounds ominous

CBC posted a story about the layoff announcement made last week by Moosehead Breweries. It doesn't sound good.

Get HECK from SJ Energy

I picked up my free HECK (Home Energy Conservation Kit) at Saint John Energy today. Apparently the promotion went very well and all 2000 kits were spoken for soon after the promotion was announced.

Park at Reversing Falls Bridge

Here's a shot (poor quality - taken from the car) of workers installing what looks like a piece of sculpture at the small park overlooking the Reversing Falls on the east side of the bridge.  This area was the site of an Irving gas station and in 1974 an explosion occurred and tragically lives were lost.  I have heard over the years that a memorial was going to be installed on the site.

I must admit that after all this time I haven't visited the area. It would provide a great  view, no doubt.

Irving Nature Park Seasonal Closing

I was in the INP a few weeks ago and couldn't figure out if it was my imagination or if indeed the park was closing earlier than usual.   I am not sure if this is exactly newsworthy, but CBC has picked up on the earlier-than-usual closing time at the park.

Apparently I wasn't the only person caught off guard.

Lou Murphy Park Walking Trails

I had an opportunity today to explore the new walking trails at Lou Murphy Park off Milford Road.  Emera NB contributed significant dollars to the trails and although I didn't have time to explore each trail I definitely was able to take in some great views.

In August,  Emera and the City completed the transfer of the 27 acre property for development into a park.  There is still work to be done, and markings are not entirely clear, but it's a great addition to the Westside and definitely worth visiting.

The image below is looking toward the North End, across the river from Milford.

Metal Shredder news

A story on News 88.9 indicates there will be a temporary solution to the power needs of AIM's lower westside shredder. And it looks like it won't include running lines along the coast.

Walmart West - still a rumour?

CHSJ is reporting that Walmart is moving into the Zellers westside. (I think I posted previously about this possibility)  Looks like no Target store folks.

Newcomers to the Westside

Welcome to New Brunswick and to the Westside Big Tub Botanicals.  I visited their booth at the Queen's Sq. Farmers' Market.  So glad to see a new business moving in.
 Nice products!

Bleury Street work

Work on Bleury Street has finally begun. It's been in bad shape for some time now.  The street is down to one lane in sections and traffic is controlled with portable stop lights.

Going, Going, Gone

I did not realize that Greco Pizza on Fairville Blvd. had closed. Sorry to see any business, and the jobs go.

And work on removing the Harbour Bridge toll booths is progressing.
